A gripping story of how air traffic controllers pulled off the impossible
On the morning of September 11th, 2001, four horrifying crashes result in U.S. airspace being unprecedentedly closed. 500 planes are travelling westbound towards North America; 333 turn back, but 167 are past the point of no return. There is one tiny place that has eyes on them all: Gander, Newfoundland. The lives of 45,000 people over the Atlantic are now in the hands of a small team of air traffic controllers in this remote, rural town with a population of 10,000. These unsung air traffic control heroes draw on their skill, experience, and raw talent to achieve the impossible – landing 167 planes in three hours, without a single incident!
