Structures from the past shed light upon today
Abandoned Americana travels across the US to explore the relics of everyday American institutions that have made the country what it is today. From Idlewild, Michigan’s ‘Black Eden’ and Amboy, the forgotten Route 66 town to the incredible Smith Mansion in Wyoming, it showcases a fascinating collection of abandoned buildings, forgotten ruins of the past and monuments to a bygone era. Each unique structure shines a light on the story of America and its people while revealing intriguing histories and long hidden secrets.
Each episode visits four unique locations whose stories are uncovered by on-site contributors with personal connections to the subject. To support every story, a diverse panel of experts, including Rob Bell, Kyle Thomas and Corina Kwami, will unravel the mystery of why the structures now lie crumbling and abandoned, how they became synonymous with the nation and people they were built for, and how they became great icons of Americana recognisable across the world.
