On Watford High street behind an unassuming door is one of the biggest restaurants in the country. JRC Global Buffet covers 27,000 square feet, and can feed as many as 3000 people in just one day. Here, for one fixed price you can eat as much as you want of up to 350 dishes from all over the world. In just one week diners can demolish 2500 spring rolls, more than half of a tonne of chicken, and more than 1000 tubs of ice cream.
Every year hundreds of thousands of people across the UK visit all you can eat restaurants. So how do you feed people as much as they want for a set price and keep your business booming? With exclusive access we go behind the scenes.
Everything here is about volume and speed. We meet the team on reception headed up by Hannah who has to process thousands of visitors through the doors, as well as Angelo who has to know exactly where and what 500 guests at any one time are up to – including those who know every trick in the book to stay longer.
We also meet the army of chefs who keep the meal machine running smoothly. Made up of 20 nationalities they prep, chop, stir, fry and grill all the dishes nonstop for a nine hour shift to keep up with the customers’ insatiable appetites.
And not forgetting the floor team who each can cover 5 miles a shift cleaning up to 65 tonnes of food waste a year. But where does it all go?
