In February 2009 an extraordinary job position was advertised. The Great Barrier Reef in Australia needed a caretaker for six months. The wage was AU$150,000 and the position was open to all nationalities. 35,000 applications later, the 600 islands of the Great Barrier reef had a caretaker – Ben Southall, a 33-year-old Englishman with a passion for travel and adventure. The Best Job in the World follows Ben from his home in the tiny English village of Ropley to the centre of a worldwide campaign and media frenzy – and not a bad job! The show takes in the staggering beauty of the only living thing you can see from space – Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
