Combat Ships tells the stories of the remarkable vessels that have shaped world history and the men and women who have crewed them - from Viking longships to missile-carrying destroyers. The earliest ships investigated in the series are Viking longships, vessels that changed the course of history, carrying warriors across the world in search of trade and plunder. Scandinavian warships spanning almost a thousand years survive and are examined in detail, revealing the Viking’s skilled craftsmanship and intimidating weaponry.

Secrets of the Sea is an episode full of stories of naval espionage and trickery – from the raising of the Soviet submarine K-129 by the CIA, to the British wargaming women sailors who found a way to sink U-Boats.

Amphibious assault craft have been a crucial part of any navy for almost a century. This episode travels all over the world from a D-Day Landing Craft Tank undergoing careful restoration in England, to a US Navy LCAC hovercraft carrying out exercises in California.
