On the front line of crime in one of the UK’s most deprived regions
Custody Cops takes viewers to Grimsby, in the north of England, for an exclusive look behind-the-bars at one of Britain’s busiest - and newest - state-of-the-art custody suites. The region has the highest violent crime rate in the UK, so there’s never a dull moment as officers must deal with detainees pouring through the doors 24/7. The series focuses on the interpersonal relationships of a likeable cast of custody cops, who are like one big family, as well as the relationships between the officers and detainees. Many of these detainees are repeat offenders and are on friendly first-name terms with the officers. Due to the close-knit community in Grimsby, some of them even grew up or went to school together.
Entertaining, edgy, and full of action, the series explores the logistical and personal challenges of running this modern and busy custody suite in one of the most deprived areas in Britain. Meanwhile, its mix of pathos and humour successfully celebrates a dedicated team of hardworking public servants on the front line of crime.
