Tracking lost landscapes and forgotten worlds

Rob Bell is back on track, exploring the abandoned train routes that once made Britain’s railways the envy of the world. This isn’t however just a series for rail enthusiasts, Rob examines Britain’s landscapes, elements of the nation’s history, and visits forgotten worlds that disappeared when the lines were closed – as well as some new ones that have sprung up in their place.

Great Britain once boasted 20,000 miles of track, but over the past century, almost half the network has disappeared – along with over 5,000 railway stations! As an engineer, Rob has always been fascinated by the extraordinary story of the lost railways, and now he’s walking whole stretches, including the line that conquered the Scottish Highlands.  Each lost railway tells a remarkable story of landscapes and communities transformed by the railways and of just how much the world has changed since.
